Examinations
At SLP Junior Academy, we believe in celebrating every child's unique journey. For our youngest students in Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet, Tap, and Modern, the Principal conducts assessments internally. These assessments mirror the standards of formal examinations, and each child will receive a report and certificate. They are conducted under examination-like conditions, providing a valuable experience.
If you would like your child to take a formal exam, please arrange this with the Principal.
From Grade 1 onwards, examinations are conducted by the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). These exams are scheduled throughout the year. Proposed dates are shared at the start of each academic year and included in our events list. Please note that these dates might change depending on the availability of the relevant exam board.
We assess each child individually to ensure they are fully prepared and confident when they take their examination. Selection for an exam is based on your child’s readiness and the teacher’s recommendation. Once selected, you will receive an exam entry slip, which must be completed and returned to reception within 7 days.
Following this, you will receive an invoice detailing the examination fees, coaching fees, studio hire, and an administration fee.
Please note: Invoices must be paid by the due date to secure your child's exam entry.
If your child misses coaching sessions, their teacher may decide they are not fully prepared for the exam. In such cases, your child may be excluded from the exam, and no refunds will be issued as the costs associated with exam entry cannot be refunded by the examination board.
Fees Overview
- Examination Fee: Covers the cost of entering your child for the exam.
- Coaching Fee: Ensures your child receives the necessary practice and preparation. This fee typically covers the equivalent of a 10-week term or condensed hours over 6 weeks.
Coaching
All students entered for IDTA and ISTD exams must attend coaching classes. These classes are essential to ensure each child is prepared to perform at their best. Coaching fees are based on class size and may vary, especially if fewer children are in the session, which may be run as private coaching. Fees are paid directly to the teacher.
Fees
Class fees must be paid for the entire term at least one month in advance of the term starting. If you need to change your child’s class time, you may transfer the fees to a new class, but not to classes your child already attends. You can request a balance statement at any time by emailing hdickinson@slpcollege.co.uk.
While termly payments are preferred via Class for Kids, we can accommodate monthly payments in certain circumstances. Please contact hdickinson@slpcollege.co.uk if you need to set this up.
Injuries
We understand that injuries can sometimes prevent students from attending their regular classes. In such cases, we offer a credit system for missed classes.
Please note: A doctor’s note is required for any credits and must pertain to an injury, not an illness like a cold or flu.
- 0-4 weeks: No credit issued.
- 4-6 weeks: 50% of the payment received will be credited.
- 6-10 weeks: Full payment credit will be issued.
Invoices will be paused from the time of injury until your child is well enough to return. Credits will be applied to future invoices.
Leaving the Academy: One month’s written notice is required, or fees in lieu will be charged if your child leaves. Exceptions are made for injuries, provided a practitioner’s recommendation supports it.
Notice of Withdrawal from Classes
A one-month notice in writing is required to withdraw from classes. Please email hdickinson@slpcollege.co.uk, and an acknowledgment will be sent to you; if you do not receive it within one week, please contact reception.
You must give at least one month’s notice before the start of a term to avoid being charged for that term.
Medical Conditions
It is crucial that we are aware of any medical conditions that might affect your child’s training. Please update any medical information via the Class for Kids system and keep us informed of any changes.
Photographs/Video
Occasionally, we take photos of our students for promotional purposes. If you do not want your child included, please update your preferences in your Class for Kids profile.
General Rules
- New pupils should wait a few weeks before buying uniforms; bare feet are acceptable initially, but full uniform is required within the first term.
- Please obtain permission from the Principal for your child to attend auditions, Summer Schools, or perform in external productions to ensure suitability and readiness.
- Changing rooms are the only permitted areas for changing clothes. Please do not change your child in the Café or waiting area for health and safety reasons.
- Outdoor shoes are not allowed in the studios. Please ensure all belongings are labeled with your child’s name. Unclaimed lost property is cleared every 4 weeks.
- The car park is for use only during your child’s class times. Please do not use it outside of these hours as it restricts access for others.
- Please collect your child from inside the building. Children under 8 must have an adult on the premises during class. Children must be collected on time. If you are late, a charge may be applied.
Café Area
The café is the only area where food and drink are allowed. This helps us keep the reception and changing rooms clean.
By following these guidelines, we ensure a safe, productive, and enjoyable environment for all students at SLP Junior Academy. Thank you for your cooperation and support. If you have any questions please contact hrooke@slpcollege.co.uk.
